Sonified 3D printer

3D printers are used to create custom design three dimensional objects using a plastic filament. With the help of 3 stepper motors, a software gives the precise X, Y, Z coordinates for the placement of the plastic to create the object. Using a custom made software is possible to translate MIDI files into G-code that the printer can read. It is possible then to assign a melody to each on of the the stepper motors thus transforming the 3D printer into a mechatronic 3 voice instrument. Using magnetic and contact microphones I capture, process and amplify the sounds of the machine.
